Thursday of Holy Week, known as Maundy Thursday, is associated with the Last Supper. On this day Jesus had his supper, his last course, with his disciples. In the words of St Matthew’s Gospel “Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it , and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is my body." And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying," Drink of it, all of you; for this is my blood of covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."The eucharist or mass which we celebrate in our churches, was instituted on this day. It is the day before crucifixion. Before we look to the wood of the cross once again, let us ponder Our Lord in the most Holy Sacrament of His precious Body and Blood.
