The Parable of the Wedding Banquet

Yesterday I wrote here about the wonderful reading in church yesterday from Blessed Paul the Apostle. It was not the only reading however. We read together the wonderful 23rd Psalm and later, we heard the Parable of the Wedding Banquet (Matthew 22:1-14).

When I was much younger, I was part of a group that led worship with contemporary music. The Medical Mission Sisters Songbook called "Joy Is Like the Rain" was one of our music sources. Yesterday I borrowed the Wedding Banquet song from there when we went to celebrate eucharist in a homeless shelter. The song is pretty faithful to the words of the gospel lesson and help (especially those who are good at listening to long readings) to sort out what is being said.

Here is another of Jesus' parables that I particularly like. It shows that God is an inviting God. Come to the banquet! he says. Many refuse. Isn't that just like life? Our Lord is there for us each and every day. All we have to do is come! All we have to do is answer his invitation!
